Costume design research task

Fashion from time to time varies. The play takes place in the 1900's therefore costumes have to be from that time period. From what I researched the best way to recognize fashion from that era is definitely when we see their slim waist and big bustle. In the 1870's fashion was different compared to the 1880's. In the 1880's overall most of the dress that were made had less volume and its main focus was on bulk as a result the bustle started growing and became heavier. The also focused more on making slim waist so they made these type of undergarment called corset that was tightened so that their waists look slim. As a result of slim waist, their bustle would stand out. The 1880's was a very fashionable era for women and they had different dresses for events and part of days.

Clothes also varied for events as well. For example during special events such as ball they would wear lightweight designers clothes. They always aimed to look elegant and did not bother with the fact that wearing such clothes is not very comfortable. Dresses also had their classes, From the way the lady wears, the material that was used to make the dress and the way the dress is designed one can tell apart quite easily.
