Costume Design (May)

Drawn by: Ayat

May seems like the shy one since she doesn't talk much. She observes and thinks before she talks so I think purple would suit her.

Costume Design (Georgina)

Drawn By: Ayat

Designing a costume for Georgina was somewhat hard since she did not have many lines in the play. But from what I read I think blue and pink would suit her since she seems a bit innocent.

Costume Design (Dorothy)

Drawn By: Ayat

Dorothy seems like the bossy type. She doesn't really care how others feel and I think a combination of Orange and black would best suit her.

Costume Design ( Barbara)

Barbara seems like the cheerful happy type of person so I think Yellow would best define her.

Costume Design (Christy)

Drawn By: Ayat

Christy seems mature in the play. She does tease Lizzie but not as much as others. From what I read she also seems like a tomboy so I think green will best suit her.

Costume Design (Eliza)

Drawn By: Ayat
Eliza is very quiet but she loves teasing Lizzie. I think green check would suit her the best since it would indicate that she is quiet and also since she didn't have many lines it was hard to determine how her dress would look like.

Costume Design (Ann)

Drawn By: Ayat

Ann is the mature one in the group. she is also quite demanding and is determined to find out what she wants. She is also fashionable so I think red would best suit her

Costume Design ( Frances)

Drawn By: Ayat
This is the costume design that I drew for Frances because she looks like the intelligent type and she is very simple and straightforward. She is also has a respectable character but nothing more can be said about her since she doesn't have many lines in the play.

Costume Design ( Rachel Brayton )

Drawn by: Ayat

I think a flower printed dress would be best suit Rachel and Rachel's Character as well. She seems like to dress up and act cute all the time and she carries around a doll around with her all the time so I think something similar or maybe this would be the best option for her

Costume Design ( Lizzie Borden)

Drawn by: Ayat

This is the costume design for Lizzie Borden and I think blue check would be the best for her and a white Apron to top it off with. The color blue would be good because its simple and the color would be slightly pale because after the killing we would want her to stand out the most since we would have blood on her ( red paint). Overall I think this dress would suit her since she is an introvert and she is an easy target as well.

Peer Evaluation

Peer: Saniya sayed

Blog:  http://saniyasayed10drama.blogspot.com/

I've gone through Saniya's Blog and I was told to critique her blog and I was impressed by the amount of work she did. When I saw her blog for the first time, she said that she didn't finish her research task but when I took another look at her blog, she has a really good research. she Managed to explain everything in detail and posted pictures as examples.  She did her thumbnail sketches and also wrote about each of the characters which is good thing but she should have had colored the thumbnails just so that she could understand and visualize the pictures in her mind as well as her readers.  She should have had done annotated her thumbnail sketches. Her set design thumbnail sketch is good, But it wasn't really clear and I wasn't able read it. There are two pictures that had color ,were annotated and was explained nicely. Overall she did a really good work of her blog.

Costume Ideas

This may not be the greatest piece of art, But these are a few costumes ideas from the play Lizzie Borden.

Barbara and Christy aren't the main protagonist of this story but from what I read I think red would suit Barbara more since she is a very simple and straightforward. she is also a bit of a tom boy from what I've seen in the opening to the play and she likes to pick on lizzie. As for Christy I think blue would suit her because she supports Barbara in her decisions. Also since red is more dominating than blue I think that make Barbara stand our more than christy

Eliza and Georgina. Eliza seems like a simple girl she may not talk much but she is quite loud. ( Pg 13 - 14). She also likes imagining and fantasize things. She is also the cute type so I think a dress full of flowers would suit her.
Georgina seems like the curious one and also a very dominating character. She always speaks what she thinks which makes her honest. I think purple is her color because it goes with her personality.

May seems like a quiet and the smart type. She is also shy from what I saw in the script. and I think if she wears glasses that would be nice. She is really simple and I think a dark blue color would suit her

Costume design research task

Fashion from time to time varies. The play takes place in the 1900's therefore costumes have to be from that time period. From what I researched the best way to recognize fashion from that era is definitely when we see their slim waist and big bustle. In the 1870's fashion was different compared to the 1880's. In the 1880's overall most of the dress that were made had less volume and its main focus was on bulk as a result the bustle started growing and became heavier. The also focused more on making slim waist so they made these type of undergarment called corset that was tightened so that their waists look slim. As a result of slim waist, their bustle would stand out. The 1880's was a very fashionable era for women and they had different dresses for events and part of days.

Here is an example of a big bustle and a slim waist.
http://historiful.wordpress.com/2012/04/07/fashion-from-the-1880s/

Clothes also varied for events as well. For example during special events such as ball they would wear lightweight designers clothes. They always aimed to look elegant and did not bother with the fact that wearing such clothes is not very comfortable. Dresses also had their classes, From the way the lady wears, the material that was used to make the dress and the way the dress is designed one can tell apart quite easily.

Here is an Example:

The theater company tries to help the homeless people in diverse ways and to ensure that they play a part in the world and for the society to know and understand their way of life. The ambition for this theater company is to enable each and every hostels in london to have acess to this company whether they want to take part in the company as an audience member or whether they want to be a participant. They also offer all the homeless/displaced people who are involved with the company with individual help and support. They also tell the story of the excluded by performing theater-based and site-specific plays in a regular and sustainable basis. At every show the audience will learn about these issues about the people the company works with. " the company will be fully engaged in national and international networks, where appropriate joining in alliances and campaigns to bring unheard voices to the fore". " All our partners, peers and friends will have the opportunity to share best practice, knowledge, skills and expertise, and to travel farther with us on cardboard citizens future journey" - www.cardboardcitizens.org.uk/p4.html

"Cardboard Citizens is a theatre company that works with homeless and marginalized people using Augusto Boal's forum theatre. Every year they tour London's hostels, day centres empowering homeless people to rehearse changes in their lives".
personally what I love about this theater company is the fact that they target the homeless in london. And they give them job opportunity.
